KALEO Network's Raney Memorial Scholarship

The KALEO Network is committed to the development of emerging ministerial leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention. The KALEO Network’s Raney Memorial Scholarship contributes to this effort by offering a limited number of $1,000 merit scholarships to graduating high school seniors, college and seminary students each year.

Eligibility Requirements

 The scholarship will be awarded to select students who meet the following guidelines:

 Applicants MUST:

  • Be an active member of a Southern Baptist or Canadian National Baptist church for at least two years immediately prior to application;
  • Enroll as a full-time student in the fall semester of the award year (“full-time” as defined by the school);
  • Attend a Southern Baptist college, university or seminary in the fall of the award year;
  • Pursue academic training for the purpose of answering God’s call to a ministry leadership role (i.e.: ministerial leadership role or missionary service); and,
  • Be a registered member of the KALEO Network (www.kaleonetwork.com).

 Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Demonstrate a history of active involvement in ministry leadership or missions involvement;
  • Have served as a student missionary through the North American Mission Board or the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention;
  • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA at the time of application; and,
  • Are citizens of the United States or Canada. Students with Permanent Resident status are not eligible.

Application Process

  1. Applications will be received January through the last business day of April.
  2. Selected scholarship recipients will be notified by June 1st.
  3. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000, made payable to selected recipients upon verification of enrollment.
  4. New applications must be submitted annually.

Application Instructions

Instructions must be followed accurately and completely to be considered as a valid application. If you do not understand an instruction, call the KALEO Network leadership team at 1(888) 554-7729.

  1. Complete all three parts of the KALEO Network’s Raney Memorial Scholarship Application.
  2. Complete each line or question on the form. Anything left blank will result in the application not being considered. “None” or “unknown” are not acceptable responses.
  3. Responses to application questions should be typed and checked for spelling and grammatical errors. Where appropriate, signatures and dates should be the only handwritten responses on the application.
  4. Do not staple anything. Clip or paperclip your application together. Remove transcripts from separate envelopes and clip them as the last item in your packet of materials.
  5. Only mailed or personally delivered applications, with all of the required attachments received by the deadline, are accepted.
  6. Incomplete or partial applications will not be considered.
  7. Submit all requested items in one 9X11 mailing envelope, in the order listed in the Application Checklist section of these instructions, to:

    • Application Part Three: Required Documentation
               -Pastoral Reference Form
               -Photograph of the Applicant
               -Official Transcript

Terms and Conditions

  1. Scholarships will be awarded upon verification of enrollment at a qualifying school.
  2. Payment will be made to the Southern Baptist college, university, or seminary and credited to the student’s account. (Note: A Student ID number or Social Security number may be required to apply the scholarship to the student’s account.)
  3. Students of North American Mission Board staff are ineligible for the KALEO Network’s Raney Memorial Scholarship.
  4. Only one application should be submitted per person each year.
  5. Incomplete applications will be deemed as invalid and will not be considered.
  6. Application submissions shall be the work of the applicant and a truthful, accurate representation in their own words.
  7. Applications must be received by the North American Mission Board between the first business day of January and 4PM (Eastern Time) on the last business day of April. Regardless of when an application is postmarked, it will not be considered if it arrives before or after the designated receipt period.
  8. By applying for the scholarship, the applicant grants the North American Mission Board permission to use their name and photo on websites, news releases or in other marketing communications in the event they are a selected scholarship recipient.
  9. The KALEO Network leadership team of the North American Mission Board reserves the right to change the scholarship program at any time, including available scholarships, deadlines, requirements, award amounts or other program details.
  10. Attempts to contact and notify selected scholarship recipients will be made by FedEx, UPS, U.S. Postal Mail, telephone and/or e-mail by June 1st.
  11. Failure to comply with all instructions will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship.
  12. By applying for the KALEO Network’s Raney Memorial Scholarship, applicants are affirming a significant motivation and commitment to (1) answer God’s call to ministerial or missionary service; and, (2) furthering your ministerial formation by attending a Southern Baptist college, university or seminary. Should this commitment ever change, scholarship recipients are expected to repay this scholarship to the North American Mission Board.
  13. Decisions of the KALEO Network leadership team are final.
