In order to provide a framework for the coaching relationship, the following is a suggested guideline for meeting with the emerging leader. The coach should tailor and personalize one-on-one meetings to meet his/her leadership style and based on the needs of the emerging leader. The relationship should be purposeful and set within defined boundaries.
Step 1: Introduction meeting
Step 2: Preparing for the first coaching session
Step 3: The first coaching session
Step 4: Monthly coaching sessions
Step 5: Coaching Session Review & Evaluation
IMPORTANT: In order to protect both the coach and the emerging leader, private or unsupervised coaching sessions should be avoided. Coaching someone of the opposite sex should be avoided. If not, take any necessary steps to build in accountability with another adult during the coaching session, regardless of how “safe” the coach may feel with the emerging leader. Coach/mentors should model the importance of protecting your reputation and ministry for the emerging leader.
